Let's get started!
1. Choose Meaningful Songs
To make your wedding ceremony more personal, think about songs that hold special significance for you and your partner. You might consider things like:
- The song you played on your first dance or first date
- A piece that represents your cultural or family heritage
- A song with lyrics that resonate with your love story
Remember, this is your day! Give yourself permission to feature a playlist that represents you.
2. Personalize Each Part of the Ceremony
Different moments in the ceremony provide opportunities to feature different types of music:
- Prelude: Set the mood with meaningful background music as guests arrive.
- Processional: Walk down the aisle to a song that speaks to your journey together.
- Interlude: Use music during unity ceremonies, ring exchanges, or moments of reflection.
- Recessional: Exit as newlyweds to a celebratory and uplifting song!
3. Ask for a Custom Arrangement
We believe that music should be as unique as the moment it celebrates. If you love a particular song but want a more elegant feel, we can write a custom arrangement for you! Many contemporary songs sound stunning when reimagined in an instrumental format.
We typically recommend Custom Arrangements if the song you're looking for is not currently available as a string quartet arrangement online. You might also want to add a Custom Arrangement to your booking package if...
✔ You want to personalize your event with a one-of-a-kind soundtrack
✔ You want to elevates the emotional impact of your ceremony or celebration
✔ You don't like any of the arrangements that are currently "out there"
Artiva Strings charges a $100 fee per custom arrangement. Contact us today if this is something you're interested in!
4. Incorporate Family or Cultural Traditions
Including traditional music from your heritage can add a meaningful and personal touch to your wedding day. Whether it’s a classic hymn, a folk song, or a family favorite, traditional styles of music can make your ceremony feel so much more special.
People often ask us to play Mexican folk tunes, Brazilian pop songs, Celtic pieces, and other world music styles, and we love the opportunity it gives us to experience new forms of music and put a smile on our clients' faces!
5. Surprise Your Partner or Guests
For a unique and heartfelt moment, consider surprising your partner with a song that reminds you of them. We can also perform a special request to honor a loved one or a shared memory.
One of our favorite memories as a quartet was when a client asked us to accompany him while playing Canon in D for his bride's walk down the aisle. For that one piece, he joined our quartet and performed one of his wife's favorite pieces of classical music. She was so surprised when she saw him playing the violin - and it made the memory of their ceremony so much more meaningful!
6. Consult with Your Musicians
Professional musicians can help adapt your favorite songs to fit the mood and flow of your ceremony. Whether it’s transforming a pop song into a romantic ballad or adjusting tempos to match your walk down the aisle, we are happy to tailor the music to your vision! Our music coordinator, Rebecca, will talk through these options when she helps you create your custom set list.
Final Thoughts...
Your wedding music should be a reflection of your relationship and personal style. By thoughtfully selecting and customizing your wedding playlist, you'll create an unforgettable ceremony that feels uniquely yours!
